Implants Versus Dentures

A Long-Term Solution to Multiple Missing Teeth

Replacing missing teeth is important not only for your ability to eat and speak comfortably, but also for your general health and well-being. Implant supported dentures offer a long-term, stable solution to replace multiple or a full arch of missing teeth. Created as either fixed or removable, implant supported dentures beautifully blend the stability of dental implants with the convenience of dentures.

Comparing Implant Supported Dentures and Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures may be a viable solution in some cases. However, many patients find greater oral health and lifestyle benefits when choosing implant-supported dentures for their tooth replacement.

Implant-Supported Denture

Implant-supported dentures rely on the strategic positioning of two or more dental implants placed within the jawbone. Implant supported dentures that are custom-fitted to your mouth are then securely attached to these implants to create a solid, stable tooth-replacement. Implant supported dentures can be fixed or removable.

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures rest on top of the gum tissues and often are held in place by denture paste, adhesive or metal clasps that hook around the adjacent teeth. As underlying bone shrinks and resorbs, traditional dentures must be relined or replaced to maintain their fit.

Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures

  • Improve biting, chewing and speaking actions
  • Full arch tooth replacement
  • Preservation of jawbone tissue
  • Ability to eat and enjoy favorite foods
  • Renewed confidence with smiling
  • No need for denture adhesive
  • No rocking, shifting or clicking
