You have been scheduled for periodontal and/or dental implant surgery. Please familiarize yourself with the following instructions before your appointment to make your procedure more comfortable and successful.
- A light meal 1 hour before your appointment is suggested as long as you will not be having IV sedation. Do not arrive on an empty stomach.
- Plan on driving yourself to and from your appointment unless an oral sedative has been prescribed or you will be having IV sedation. In these situations, you must have someone drive you to and from your appointment.
- Plan to take the remainder of the day off work. Most patients are able to return to work the following day.
- If you have a bite splint, orthodontic retainer, removable partial or flipper please bring it with you to your appointment.
- A local anesthetic will be used and non-dissolvable sutures will be placed. The sutures will be removed 10-14 days after the surgery.
- If you take Aspirin, Coumadin or other blood thinner, please inform Dr. Mason prior to the surgery.
As something as serious as going to a periodontist is, I have always had a great and comfortable experience with this office! What I feel is the most important aspect is that if you ask questions about your care, it is answered in a respectful and supportive way!
