A canine exposure is indicated in situations when your tooth has not fully erupted properly.
In these cases, your orthodontist will refer you to have the gum tissue overlying your tooth removed.
This procedure is performed under local anesthetic and involves lifting the gum tissue overlying your tooth to expose the crown for future orthodontic movement. Often, at the end of the surgery a bracket or chain is placed on the tooth to assist your orthodontist with moving the tooth into the desired position.
