Tooth Extractions

Is Tooth Pain and other Symptoms Disrupting Your Life?

Symptoms like tooth pain, swelling and other discomfort often signal an oral health problem, and potentially the need for tooth extractions. Although as periodontists our goal is to save teeth, extraction may be the best course of action for your smile in situations in which problematic teeth cannot be saved. Leaving failing or unsalvageable teeth in place increases risk for complications and prevents you from enjoying better oral health. An experienced surgeon, Dr. Suzanne Mason offers extraction of all types of teeth (fractured, root canal treated, wisdom, impacted and baby teeth) to get you out of pain and back to enjoying your smile once again.

Conditions That May Require Tooth Extractions Include

  • Severely decayed or damaged teeth
  • Infection
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Fractured roots
  • Severe bone loss
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Orthodontic Concerns
  • Preparation for dental implant placement
  • Root resorption
  • Cosmetic reasons

The Importance of Tooth Replacement After Extraction

Replacing teeth after tooth extractions is important to your oral health and smile. Prolonged tooth loss leads to bone loss, shifting and tilting of surrounding teeth, changes in bite and other problems. Dental implants are often the ideal option for tooth replacement as they closely mimic tooth, root and crown structures. In certain cases, Dr. Mason performs "immediate implants" where the dental implant is placed after tooth extraction in the same visit.

Extraction Site Preservation for Dental Implants

Preserving extraction sites immediately following tooth extractions may be necessary to prepare for future dental implant placement. With a socket preservation procedure, Dr. Mason adds bone and tissue regenerative factors directly to the tooth sockets (hollow spaces in the bone left by tooth roots). This minimizes the bony arch collapse in these areas, creating a solid foundation and support for your future dental implant.

I cannot say enough how great my appointment went here. From the moment I checked in until even after I got home. They knew I had high anxiety and kept me calm the how time.
